A year or less

Well, the time has come... I have not updated my blog in a year or less. So much has happened and I don't have time to tell you about it today. I am in the process of moving my blog to a different page. It will have more of a ministry focus since most of the people who read this for life updates are on facebook.

Summer o8 the start

The end of May 2008, seemed to be the first real vacation we have had in our two years of marriage. I took my final exam fro Church History on Thursday night and early Friday morning Susana and I left for Tennessee. We beat it down the road from Missouri to Tennessee, stopping at Steak and Shake for Lunch and arriving at the in-laws at 8:00 pm. We stayed up late enjoying time with family. Saturday morning, I woke up to a great breakfast cooked by my father in law. Then come a day of golf. We had a mini-family reunion, where the guys spent time on the course. We headed back to the house for a great cookout and then back to the greens. The day wrapped up back at the house, eating dinner and spending more time with family.

That Sunday, we attended central Baptist church, where my father in law serves as youth pastor. They have a small, but active youth group. We then hit the road for Pigeon forge and Maryville.

More to follow…

Febuary 2007

January ended with my committing to the task of ordination to the ministry. Before that labor of the mind began however, I had to finish teaching. Through the month of January I taught the adult Sunday school class a on the book of James. The premise was that we all need to have a living, active faith...this is evidenced by many things. The first Sunday in Febuary I concluded with this series. I have to admit, considering this was my first series I have ever taught, it went very well. The Lord gave me insight and ability that I did not think I was capable of.

With Sunday school preparation behind me, I began the task of gathering a mountain load of resources to wade through as I began my research. I printed pages of doctrinal statements, borrowed two dozen books, sifted through fours years of college notes and began to read. While this process was occurring I was also working 45ish hours a week, driving two hours and back to church on the weekends and attempting to spend some time with my wife. It was very normal for me to stay up until the early hours of the morning. Instead of reading straight though a book, I decided to divide my research into topics, as I studied I could craft the ordination statement around these various topics and immerse myself into the doctrines. I normally arrived home from work at 5:30 ate dinner with my wife and disappeared into the study around 6:30 not emerging until 12:30, normally then I would shift into the bedroom, turn on a reading lamp and fall asleep while studying. It was a great time of affirmation in my life. I was finally forced to think through my beliefs on a topic (not just what I needed to know to pass a test in school), I was going to face men who had their own views and I would be required to defend my views. The Bob Jones University library was a gold mine I visited weekly. Pulling from the shelves nuggets of knowledge and harvesting kernels of truth that could be woven into my doctrinal statement. Did I ever become discouraged? Not really, I actually enjoyed the process...there were times when I had to give in and sleep, but it was neat to see how good men differ. All told, I took 185 pages of typed notes (I plan to write a theology for teenagers at some point).

As I have learned...a horse can only gallop for so long before he needs to trot, so, mid-month we headed to the Wilds to work a weekend. I knew there wouldn't be opportunity to work many more weekends, so I valued the time at the Wilds. We headed up after a Friday of work and I soon found myself cooking in the kitchen, while my wife served the food. It was a great weekend in which I got to spend time with Susana and catch up with good friends. I still managed to squeeze in some study time.

Febuary passed in a blur of papers and March peeked around the corner. When will I write about March, maybe next week...maybe not. I have a goal of writing about every month of 2007 before 2008 is here.

My Resting Place.

This evening I was contemplating. I was thinking of all of the wonderful place I have been, all of the scenes I have enjoyed, leaves I have crushed while walking in the woods, tracks I have left in the snow, puddles I have splashed in during a rain drenched day and I asked myself...where is my current resting place?

As a child my resting place was curled up on the coach with my mother and father. As a pre-teen, I hid in my room. Through my teen years, I spent hours biking down streets and through mountains. Throughout college, I ventured to the hills of the Wilds. Now...I live in Missouri, I have a wonderful home with a great fireplace. My resting place is the carpet next to a roaring fire, for there I can read, write, hear the cracking fire and feel the warmth of my home.

In reality...my resting place will never change, because in the Lord I put my trust, and I can rest on Him.

Hit again.

In the four months I have lived in Missouri my car has been hit three times. My body shop guy knows me by name. By the way, all three times were teenagers.

Hello World

Just so everyone is aware, I am doing well. Seminary is keeping me very busy. I am currently reading a ton and loving every minute of it.
